Match timing details, and tournament details

Gerihatricksek – Friday 25 May 2018.

Following committee members in attendance: - Pat, Ian, Frank, Jim, Gerry and Russell.

Monday 4th June 2018 we will be having ‘Bubble Football’ in aid of our charity. Not all might be able or want to take part. In keeping with the ‘fun’ theme we hope to play football outside wearing a variety of face-masks.

The charity box will be available until the end of May, for those that wish to contribute.

There was a concern raised that we may have too many players on ‘match days’ that may cause some safety and quality issues. It was agreed that for indoors the optimum number of players in 7 a-side. All should note that we DO have the outside pitch available on all match days. It was noted that outdoor pitch is an acceptable alternative, particularly in good weather. However it was noted that during adverse weather, e.g. rain, coming back indoors may cause the floors to become wet and therefore dangerous.

It was agreed that when we use the outdoor pitch on adverse weather days the players will be outside for the full hour.

We have sufficient interest at this date to forward a squad of players to compete in the Scottish Cup tournament at Glasgow Green on Saturday 23rd June 2018 – winners go onto represent Scotland. Pat has secured a sponsor for team strips and these will be unveiled shortly.

If sufficient interest and commitment is forthcoming in the next two weeks we will be able to forward two competitive teams, with Denny supplying the other kit. Alternatively this ‘second’ group can play in the non- competitive tournament on the same day.

All to note that tournament rules apply and they will be confirmed in next week or so. However, with at least one team going forward, the committee would look to ‘play to the rules in June, in order to give our team/teams valuable practice.

All should also note that this Wednesday is the final league matches for walking football at Ravenscraig. Anyone interested in seeing the standard of teams they will/may face during the tournament can go along on Wednesday 30th May 2018 from 12:00.

You are all aware that on each match day, we try to even teams out and over the last few months the committee has tried various options.

It appears that no matter what option is used we do have a problem with time. We get one hour in the hall, so paying money to our valuable non-playing member is helpful but takes time as does validating our cards at reception.

It is requested that all players endeavour to turn up at 10:45 hours so that we can maximise our one hour playing time.

The teams will then be picked (from 10:55) using the current system of team captains picking random numbers. As a committee we will monitor this to see if this improves.

Accordingly should any player turn up after 10:45 and not completed the admin before kick-off time, they may find themselves on the side-lines until they can be fitted into a team – taking cognisance of numbers. The committee is well aware that each of us can have good reason not to turn up until kick-off time, but ask that all try to be at the venue at 10:45. Those bringing the equipment on match days are especially encouraged to attend at 10:45.

The committee will also undertake to ask about possible time changes (earlier) and additional days. We will update all when known.

Our group are getting on in years and many of us carry medical issues and injuries. While we cannot offer a full first aid support, one of our members has offered to give us a short talk, with possible demonstration on first aid, particularly the use of the defibrillator (one site). Further details will be supplied in due course.

For those who pay £2 per week and therefore in the social side, the committee would welcome suggestions for and day/nights out.

At the meeting we have several initial suggestions.

1 Oran Mor – a Pie, A Pint and A Play – Byres Road Glasgow (No6 drops you at the door!)

2 Hampden Park Tour

3. Bus run to the coast to also play football against a local team.

4. Tour of Glasgow Central.

5. World Cup match in a licensed premise.

Finally, with one team at least we would like to have a non-playing manager to help us make substitutions etc. No coaching badges required!!!!!

We require some feedback from members and also any other suggestions.

Please make any comments or concerns known to any committee member.

25 May 2018.
